Keep looking during the holidays!
It seems that the business world shuts down during the festive season. With Thanksgiving & Christmas seasons seemingly rolling into one this year, the seasonal socialising just goes on and on!
If you are on the lookout for a new international job or that next career move, it would be very easy to get into the festive spirit and forget about looking for a few weeks. Who could blame you? But the reality is this; can you really afford to call off the job search for such a long period? Many would argue it’s pointless anyway, as nothing seems to get ‘done’ during festive times, but I’d disagree.
Keep up your job search. December can actually be a good time to look for a job. Companies often put off hiring until the fourth quarter, hiring managers may be in a better-than-usual mood and may be easier to reach, fewer people job hunt this time of year so there’s less competition, and networking opportunities abound (those holiday parties!). All good reasons to keep on keeping on.
Everyone loves to receive a sincere holiday greeting. If you are the kind of person who doesn’t like to keep ‘hassling’ recruiters or contacts, now is the perfect time! Send a personalised email or old fashioned card even. It is friendly and reminds them that you are still around and looking for work.
Use parties as the ultimate networking opportunity. Of course it isn’t always appropriate at an occasion where people are deliberately ‘off work’ but there is no harm in dropping your job search into a conversation. People always know other people who might be able to help you, and all connections are good!
Importatantly, relax with friends and family. Releasing yourself from the stresses of job hunting will leave you with a clearer mind and m more energy to network when it really counts.
Happy Holidays From The TeleportMyJob.Com Team!
