It’s that time of year again. As the summer draws to a close, executives return to their desks with trepidation, having relaxed and enjoyed their vacations all over the world. Graduates and school leavers look towards new horizons or seeking new opportunities for London jobs after studying and most thoughts tend to drift back to those sunny cosmopolitan climes from where we have just returned.
Many of us will keep dreaming of our place in sun, but for others that holiday feeling just won’t go away, and as the new term mentality approaches, thoughts may well turn to making a permanent move to take a career in another country, maybe thinking about landing in Singpoare jobs or jobs in Dubai.
But where? You may have enjoyed your break on the beaches of Brazil, but there may not be much demand for your key IT skills. It’s not quite as easy as picking up your passport and heading for the airport either. Planning is required and many important factors to be taken into account. Possibly the most important things to consider would be visa requirements , the countries required skill set and any language barriers you may need to overcome.
But don’t let any of that put you off! Here’s a guide to a few of the most happening places to work in.
Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur is the cultural and political capital of Malaysia. Whilst the nearby Putrajaya is the administrative capital, Kuala Lumpur is the focus of the country’s fast paced development.
Imperative to this is the development of the MultiMedia Super Corridor (MSC) which literally stretches from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to the middle of the city. There is a purpose built community called ‘CyberJaya’ that forms the main module of MSC and is situated just outside of Kuala Lumpur itself.
The fast paced city itself has a population of approximately 1.5 million with another 4.5 million living in the surrounding metropolitan area. Kuala Lumpur has seen a recent boom in the industries of trade and commerce, banking, finance, manufacturing, transportation, Information technology and tourism.
New Zealand - Auckland
New Zealand and Auckland in particular have always been a popular place for relocating expatriates from all over the world. New Zealand is recognised as one of the most desirable places for genuine quality of life away from the environmental concerns of modern day city living. Auckland is actually made up of four cities and there are two dramatic geographic elements that dominate life in and around the greater conurbation – namely the volcanoes and the sea. These ensure that Auckland is a stunning place to live with breathtaking views assured. What’s more, because the greater city area is home to almost a quarter of all the citizens of New Zealand, it is certainly a happening and exciting place to live.
In terms of employment, Auckland is the economic capital of New Zealand and the largest commercial centre in the country - all the major multi nationals have offices in the city. This ensures that there is a wide base of diverse employment opportunity and that there is a higher than national average personal median income enjoyed by many professionals who are resident in the city.
Abu Dhabi – United Arab Emirates
Abu Dhabi, although often thought of as Dubai’s less glamorous neighbour, is, however, the epitome of a modern Middle Eastern city - vibrant, cultural and lively.
Its strategic importance is significant as it houses the government of the UAE. Furthermore, Abu Dhabi holds nearly 9% of world oil reserves. Naturally, a large proportion of expatriate workers are employed in the oil and gas industry. Emiratis make up only 30% of the population, and there are a significant number of other Arabs from the region. There are also large South Indian and Filipino contingents, as well as a percentage of western expats from the UK, Europe and beyond.
Indeed, the city is an ideal place to bring up a family, and enjoy the nicer things in life in a modern, culturally focused environment. For those into the hustle, bustle and bright lights, Dubai is only a 90 minute drive away.
Zurich - Switzerland
Recently voted ‘the most liveable city in the world’ Zurich, Switzerland should certainly be on your list if you are looking for that career move abroad.
Characterised by its cultural diversity, Switzerland is the ideal place to relocate if you are looking for a cultural, safe, clean way of live and missing with people from all nationalities.
Switzerland has approximately 7,2 million inhabitants, of whom about 20% are foreigners. The country has four national languages: German (75%), French (20%), Italian (4%) and Raetoromansch (1%) (Swiss nationals only). Its neighbours are Germany to the north, Austria and Liechtenstein to the east, Italy to the south and France to the west. This makes Switzerland an enviable location to see and visit the rest of Europe cost effectively.
Zurich, with its banks, insurance companies, machine industry, tourism and trade is Switzerland’s most important business centre. 77% of the employees work in the services sector. Zurich is also home to over a hundred foreign banks from all over the world.
